The first steps are to determine your budget and guest list. For a casual event it’s perfectly acceptable to send eVites to those on the guest list. When planning your menu, stick to your budget, and keep in mind that guests will not be seated at a table. Heavy sauces, soups would be less than practical. You don’t need to be a gourmet chef to prepare a meal for a large crowd. The key is to prepare as much in advance as possible. Lasagna, fresh salad and warm bread are always crowd pleasers and can be made well in advance.
The easiest way to serve a large crowd is by setting up a buffet in the dining room. Place half the plates on either end of the buffet to allow guests to serve themselves from either side. Place a bouquet of flowers in the center of the buffet table. Roll flatware in napkins for guests to easily retrieve. Set the buffet up several days prior to the event. Place serving platters around the buffet to ensure sufficient space prior to the evening of the event.
