The Wharerātā Declaration was presented to about 30 people in workshop at Healing Our Spirit Worldwide, by Carol Hopkins and Rose Sones. Connections were made to additional leaders from around the Pacific Rim.
The Wharerātā Group made it on to the closing plenary of HOSW! The full participation of about 2900 people heard about the Group, Declaration and website.
Australia was named as the next host of HOSW, in 3 or 4 years. The Wharerātā Group offered our help to ensure its success, with our networks and influence.
Held in Hawai'l leading up to HOSW, this was sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Native American Center for Excellence (NACE). This event brought together American Indian/Alaskan Native behavioral health practitioners and leaders, along with researchers, and discussed culturally competent approaches to evidence-based research in American Indian/Alaskan Native communities. Rose Sones presented the Wharerātā Declaration in plenary. One highlight of the meeting was the video presentation of SEER, "Strength-based Evaluation Research" which is linked in the Online Library.
